AmeriCorps*VISTA Leader

Position Description
Missouri Campus Compact is seeking an AmeriCorps*VISTA Leader to train, mentor, and support nine AmeriCorps*VISTA Members located at various Missouri colleges and universities. The Leader will be located at Missouri State University in Springfield, Missouri, and will report to the Executive Director of Missouri Campus Compact.

One full year of AmeriCorps*VISTA experience is required to be considered for this position. Any experienced VISTAs are welcome to apply, although preference will be given to candidates who have served in a higher-education setting, and especially candidates already familiar with Campus Compact.

Missouri Campus Compact is part of a growing national coalition of college and university presidents established to encourage and support civic engagement within the community. Through innovative student, faculty, and institutional participation in service, higher education can garner public trust to inspire active, responsible, and committed citizens while helping to solve society's most pressing needs. Missouri Campus Compact assists higher education in the creation of partnerships between post-secondary educational institutions and community-based organizations.

AmeriCorps*VISTA Leader Responsibilities
The MOCC VISTA Leader will:

 ·      Manage reporting process to the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS)

·       Maintain regular communication with VISTA Members and their supervisors, and facilitate information sharing
and collaboration among Members

·       Assist with planning and conducting on-site orientation and training for new Members

·       Empower Members to develop leadership skills and a working knowledge of networking, problem solving,
and resources through mentorship and facilitating

·       Recognize efforts and accomplishments made by Members

·       Assist site supervisors with position descriptions and utilize various means of advertising position openings

·       Attend job fairs and public speaking events

·       Assist with screening AmeriCorps*VISTA Member candidates

·       Assist site supervisors and new AmeriCorps*VISTA Members with appropriate paperwork related to the hiring process

·       Create training opportunities and tools that will provide Members the resources necessary to support the
overarching goals

·       Respond to requests for resources and assistance from Members

·       Engage VISTAs, as appropriate, in statewide events, which feature and promote service and volunteerism
in Missouri, such as the Martin Luther King Day of Service

·       Support Members in the end-of-year exit process

 Recommended Skills and Qualifications

 ·      Excellent written and oral communication skills

·        Excellent organizational skills, including training, project management, public speaking, and event planning
 and implementation

·        Experience with the Internet, Microsoft Office software, and/or site-specific technology

·        Ability to work well with a team and independently

·        Self-motivated

·        Ability to work with minimal supervision

·        Experience in volunteer management

·        Ability to drive and access to a vehicle (for placements in areas without adequate public transportation)

·        College degree and/or relevant experience

·        Strong interest or experience in community service and/or service-learning
